Single-Sided vs Double-Sided Gold Cake Boards
The better choice depends on what remains visible, how the board is handled and where buyers need to spend for presentation—not on the idea that more foil is always better.
Final performance must be confirmed against the approved product specification, sample and intended use condition.
What is the practical difference?
A single-sided board presents a gold surface on the cake-facing side, while the reverse uses a different backing finish. A double-sided board carries a finished surface on both faces. Confirm the edge treatment separately, because face coverage does not describe the edge.
When single-sided boards make sense
For standard boxed cakes, the reverse is normally hidden. A single-sided construction can therefore be a practical core range when the visible face, cleanliness, rigidity and box fit meet the application.
When double-sided boards add value
Consider a double-sided finish when the underside may be visible, the board is used in open display, or a presentation specification requires a consistent finish from multiple viewing angles. It may also simplify cleaning of incidental marks, depending on the actual surface material.
Build a balanced wholesale range
Start with the sizes, shapes and gold tones that serve repeat demand. Treat double-sided, unusual shapes and specialist finishes as specification-led extensions rather than assuming every buyer needs the same construction.
Questions to put in the RFQ
State whether one or both faces need finishing; board material; finished size and thickness; edge style; gold colour reference; embossing; pack quantity; carton marks; and whether FSC-claimed material is required. Ask for a representative sample before bulk approval.
